Kindergarten Through 2nd Grade at Lion’s Heart Montessori
Our program is designed for motivated learners ages 4 to 8 who are ready for focused academic growth. This program is ideal for homeschool families seeking structured academic support, children who missed the traditional kindergarten cutoff, or learners who simply need deeper, more intentional academic development.
We blend the proven Montessori method with purposeful, teacher guided instruction to build strong foundations in reading, writing, mathematics, science, and critical thinking. Students work with high quality, hands on materials in a structured yet nurturing environment that promotes independence, focus, and confidence.
Through a thoughtful balance of child led exploration and intentional academic progression, students are prepared not just for the next grade level, but for long term academic success.
An Enriching Montessori Experience
In our classroom, learning is individualized and deeply respectful of each learner’s developmental journey. Montessori trained teachers carefully observe and introduce new lessons when the student is intellectually, emotionally, and physically ready.
Lessons are presented one on one or in small groups to ensure strong comprehension and meaningful engagement. Students are encouraged to practice, refine, and master skills at their own pace while being gently guided toward higher levels of achievement.
Whether a learner is building early literacy skills, strengthening mathematical understanding, or advancing beyond grade level expectations, our approach nurtures intrinsic motivation and cultivates true academic confidence.

Academics
Mathematics
In the Montessori approach to math, students learn through concrete, hands-on materials. As they progress, they will move to abstract concepts, emphasizing understanding the quantity and the decimal system. All math materials are designed to help students understand mathematical concepts in a meaningful and engaging way. Sensory exploration is emphasized in this approach, which permits students to transition from tangible, concrete materials to abstract concepts at their own pace. The objective is to create a sturdy mathematical basis that is founded on comprehension rather than memorization.
English
The Montessori language approach develops language skills through hands-on experiences, beginning with oral language and progressing to reading and writing. By utilizing materials that promote vocabulary building, phonemic awareness, and grammar, Montessori nurtures a love for language through exploration and self-expression.
Geography
Montessori geography explores the world through materials and activities that enhance students' understanding of a strong sense of place and global awareness. They will start by learning about continents, countries, and cultures to gain insight into the world around them. As they progress, exploring biomes, landforms, and ecosystems will be their next step.
Science
Through hands-on experiences, Montessori science students explore the natural world and gain a deeper understanding of scientific concepts. The emphasis on observation, experimentation, and discovery can also foster a sense of wonder among students. The Montessori Sciences curriculum includes Zoology, Botany, Earth and Space Science, Physical Science, Experiments, and more.
Outdoor Classroom
A Montessori outdoor classroom extends the traditional indoor Montessori environment, allowing children to engage with nature through hands-on, sensory experiences. The primary objective of outdoor exploration is to promote creativity, exploration, and a connection to the natural world. We achieve this by utilizing our garden program, working with our farm goats, exploring our six acres of land, and participating in various activities beyond the classroom.
